Fonts
anon - you mention a font to download. Where did you find it? Is it an open source font?
This is an important question. Please clarify that you have permission or have a license to distribute these fonts. Otherwise, you will need to remove the link. Wine Wiki Admin --JoeB 20:55, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
Since we become aware of this, we have make repeated queries without success. Because there has been no clarification, with regret we have had to remove the link for the font.

Jul06: With assurances that the font was created using font forge and is authored by the user, subject to further developments we have not removed this new link. Thanks for the needed clarifications. --JoeB 02:16, 21 August 2006 (PDT)
I have added the font link to the 2003 version. Wine_Watchtower_Library_2003#Wine_0.9.23

The binary file appears to be an install of wine that appear to allow a user to install the Library. There are some pictures that look very similar to the library - they may be original, or the may have been copied. - sorry not logged in.
Last I heard, this had been fixed. - Anon
please help
Thanks for this nice howto, but i`ve a problem and i hope you can help me.
I can install the program but i can't start it.
When i try to start wtlib with 'WINEDLLOVERRIDES="comctl32=n" wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/Watchtower/Watchtower\ Library\ 2005/X/wtlib.exe', the console just puts out this:

I'm working on a Kubuntu (Dapper) system with the latest wine release.
I would appreciate help from anyone as long as it'll work. I'm that close to run wtlib on my system, i don't want to give up now...

that looks like wine0.9.13 which fails to install. try the latest wine 0.9.14. You can check by typing wine --version in a console. -anon
He reports it as installing. Try cd'ing into the directory and starting it from there.--JoeB 19:40, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
I've tried out both, but it doesn't help. I've updated wine to version 0.9.14 and cd'ed to the directory.
But again i get this:

Ok. Now wine 0.9.14 gives some very different messages - so I think you have some of the old wine there. Did you try to backup your wine directory(relable it to something like oldwine.. run winecfg to setup wine, and then reinstall the library (you should be able to do it without any dlls)? -anon
I haven't done any backups because I don't use wine for other programms. I removed the /.wine/ directory as mentioned in the howto. I also tried to remove and reinstall wine, but nothing changes. :( I also checked the vesion and it's 0.9.14.
But there is one thing, I can't do like in the howto: when I type 'wine' the /.wine/ directory isn't created.
Sorry for causing so much trouble...
-michael
no problem. that is interesting though.. usually you would type winecfg to set up the .wine. Where did you see type wine?<searching wiki..> Try winecfg and let us know. And dont run wine as root (just checking). Try looking at the 2003 guide. I used that with 2003.
Dlls
I notice that with wine 0.9.15 and 0.9.16 wt 2003 doesnt require comctl to install. I have heard this is the same for 2005
A little help also please
I've followed the excellent guide also (using ubuntu) and get this:
fixme:advapi:CheckTokenMembership (0xb0 0x7fd449e8 0x7fb9f9f0) stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub! fixme:file:NtNotifyChangeDirectoryFile parameters ignored (nil) (nil) 1 fixme:font:WineEngCreateFontInstance Untranslated charset 228 err:win:CreateWindowExW bad class name L"ToolbarWindow32" fixme:win:SetWindowTextW setting text L"Watchtower Library 2005 - English Edition" of other process window (nil) should not use SendMessage fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub
Your help would be most appreciated. I would also be most grateful if you could point me in the right direction for where to build my knowledge and skills in working with wine myself and then I could solve my own issues and help others too.
Thanks in advance. David
Hi David. Others would need a little more info to try and help. Are you running an amd64 version of Ubuntu? If you are, I have heard there are problems with it's version of wine. To check wine is installed ok, perhaps try running notepad by typing notepad on the command line. If it runs well, wine should be fine. The other query, is what command did you use - are you running setup or something else? To run the library from the command line, usually you can cd to the dir for MEPS and then type wtlib.exe, though you dont show any dll errors which would be expected if this was the problem. Guessing that you are running setup, check the version of wine (wine --version) to make sure you have later than 0.9.15 and make sure you have no dll overrides with winecfg or on the commandline, as many versions of the library now just install using "wine setup.exe". If that fails, try installing using the copy method described on this page but if necessary compile wine yourself, (though if using amd64, check the official wine wiki site for more info links are found in this wiki under installing wine).
As for learning, check through the wiki for more info, as there is a wealth of information available for learning. If you see anything that belongs in official docs you are welcome to add it. But to assist others with wine and this library, feel free to discuss and then add to this wiki and the appdb entries -j
Answers I'm not on AMD64, I'm using i386 32bit. Notepad is working fine. The set-up seemed to work fine when I followed the guide. Running WTLib I put the lines in the guide into a shell script, i.e.
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon/ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="comctl32=n" wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower/Watchtower\ Library\ 2005/e/wtlib.exe
It could be the fact I used the dll override while using a recent version of wine. I'll try starting with a clean '.wine' and do the simple "wine setup.exe" that you recommend. Thanks again.
Observations - I just cd to the Meps dir and if i remember correctly, just type wine wtlib.exe. I cant test at the mo as the mandrake install 0.9.17 fails creating the .wine and I havent had time to fix it. I'm no wine expert, however, what is your version of wine?
I'm using ubuntu dapper and the initial wine install i get is 0.9.9 using apt-get. However, once I check for an upgrade i get 0.9.18. The upgrade requires one to connect to the wine recommeded repository which can be found here: http://www.winehq.com/site/download-deb.
NOW I HAVE A WORKING WTLIB! Fabulous!
heh. great to hear. Yes, 0.9.9 is too old. After about 0.9.12 things started to reliably install and mostly work.
nice touch adding the wine download. Perhaps you could add that to the main page ;) --JoeB 02:32, 28 August 2006 (PDT)
Watchtower Library 2006 Fedora 7 tooltips *update*
January 24, 2008 The tooltips box on Watchtower Library 2006 install in Fedora 7 doesn't work properly, so that bothers me. This is my first update to a wiki, so I hope it helps someone.
My vital information came from Arno's forum at http://yann.barraud.free.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41#p129 Although the information there is for Ubuntu and Kubuntu, I think it can also be applied to Fedora based stuff.
**Notes:
o I started using Arno's instructions, but somehow I ended up doing my directories instead. I like to use GUI and I'm just a point and click kinda guy anyway.
o I'm using fonts which I originally got from http://arno.homelinux.org/files/wtlibfonts/ last year. Those fonts don't seem to want to work on my system this year.
o The comctl32.dll source is from my registered XPHome install. It works.
o I'm using WINE version 0.9.52 downloaded by yum install wine
o Fedora 7
We need
1) the comctl32.dll as always 2) a directory to put it in
I put the 'deadbeef' directory into the fonts directory:
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_none_deadbeef
Slight change here now, as the directory version number isn't 6.0.0.0, but rather 6.0.2600.2982. This is true on my machine anyway. Here's what I discovered: I went into ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/manifests, where I found the 'deadbeef' directory. I saw that the version number was different, so I simply went back to the
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_none_deadbeef
directory and changed the version number from 6.0.0.0 to 6.0.2600.2982 Then I put the notorious comctl32.dll into it. The ~/winsxs directory was not empty on this, my latest install, and that's where I found the current 'deadbeef' directory version. This works fine. Got my tooltips popping up again anyway.
I also went to Wine Configuration, changed the Windows version for both 'default' and 'WTLibrary.exe' to Windows 2000, even though the comctl32.dll file is from XP. I found that this doesn't make that much difference, and in fact works well, at least on my machine.
I left the comctrl32.dll dlloverride as 'native/builtin'. That still suits my purpose.
Back to Arno's notes: I removed Arno's notes from here. They can still be found at
http://yann.barraud.free.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41#p129
Huge thanks to Arno and all the developers for all the breakthroughs they have made for 'point&click' guys like me. Linux is preferred here.
thanks for sharing your insights for f8. A bugzilla report on the tooltips issue may help get the problem fixed. wine is nearing version 1.0 in about 6 months. For this fix to be included, a bug report would need to be made sooner than later. What would be very helpful is finding another program which is free to download, with the same problem and writing up a bug report. Then developers can try it and debug it at home. While the workaround for the comctl dll is in the wiki on another page - apparently developers are wanting bug reports for this dll before version 1.0 as it is such a common and important dll. Joeb
Visitor had changed joeb comment about f8 to f7. I changed the text back to f8. Removed some of the bold and removed nonsense words. -anon
