The unofficial Slackware package repository, LinuxPackages, usually has the latest build.

[Dec 06] Later version of Wine does not support glibc 2.3 without kernel+glibc NPTL support. Slackware has NPTL support in glibc, but not in the 2.4 (default) kernel. To run Wine you'll need to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel.

[Nov 05] using the Slackware package (I'm using Slackware 10.2)[...] Wine seems to work fine, but does never exit if I'm using the "close" button of the window manager. [He then] compiled Wine from source, used "make prefix=$PKG/usr install" to "redirect" the installation and created a package on my own. My "self made" version now works well. wine archive
